About the Magyar Agár
Magyar Agár — FCI Standard No. 240 illustration

Magyar Agár · FCI Standard No. 240

The Magyar Agár (Hungarian Greyhound) is an established sighthound breed recognized internationally and throughout North America. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the world's largest international canine organization, classifies the Magyar Agár in Group 10: Sighthounds alongside breeds such as the Greyhound, Saluki, and Whippet (FCI Standard No. 240). The United Kennel Club (UKC) has recognized the breed in the United States since 2006.

The breed is supported by an active and growing population worldwide. According to the Magyar Agár Breed Archive, more than 4,200 Magyar Agárs have been recorded globally, with active breeding programs in multiple countries. The breed's North American presence continues to expand through the efforts of the North American Magyar Agár Association (NAMAA) and a growing community of owners, breeders, and sighthound enthusiasts in both the United States and Canada.

These factors demonstrate that the Magyar Agár is a recognized, established, and sustainable sighthound breed with the population, organizational support, and international standing expected of breeds participating in lure coursing programs.
